Frequently asked questions
What the assessment measures, how it works, what you receive, and how organizations and individuals get started
CyberGEN.IQ is a cognitive aptitude assessment built for cybersecurity. It reveals where a person is most likely to excel in cyber, no prior cyber knowledge required
A skills test shows what someone has already learned. CyberGEN.IQ shows what they’re capable of, even if they’ve never had the chance to learn it. It’s designed to complement skills testing, not replace it
CyberGEN.IQ grew out of research developed with the University of Maryland, bringing together cognitive psychologists, psychometricians and cybersecurity experts
Five cognitive dimensions, assessed through 14 tasks. Critical Thinking: pattern recognition, logic and complex problem-solving. Initiating: creative, proactive problem-solving. Responding: anomaly detection under mental load. Real-Time: fast, accurate decisions under time pressure. Exhaustive: patience to weigh options before acting
Results are organized across four broad areas of cyber work: Offensive Operations, Defensive Operations, Design and Development, and Analysis and Forensics. They are also aligned at a high level with work roles in the NICE Workforce Framework for Cybersecurity. The detailed mapping is part of our proprietary methodology
The assessment has 14 tasks. Each takes about 3 to 15 minutes, and most people finish in around 90 minutes. You can take breaks between tasks, or stop and return later, and your progress picks up after the last completed task
A desktop or laptop computer with a current browser and a stable connection. Phones and tablets are not supported for taking the assessment
No. CyberGEN.IQ measures how someone approaches problems, not what they already know, so it works for career changers, veterans, students and anyone new to cyber
Each participant receives a profile across the five dimensions and four areas of cyber work, available as soon as they finish. Organizations get a dashboard to track completion, release reports, group a cohort by profile and export results, with access set by role
In a US Air Force field study, CyberGEN.IQ showed 97% accuracy predicting which candidates became elite Cyber Warfare Operators, defined as scoring 90% or higher in training. At the University of North Georgia, the cyber team grew fourfold and women's participation rose from 10% to 20%. See the research and validation
No. There is no pass or fail and no single overall score. Results are one source of evidence, meant to be weighed alongside experience, skills, interviews and human judgment
Yes. Employers use it as one input alongside skills, experience and interviews, and because it does not require cyber credentials it helps surface candidates from non-traditional backgrounds, including career changers, veterans and recent graduates
Yes. Organizations assess their current workforce to find people whose profiles suggest aptitude for cyber work, then direct development and training where it is likely to help most
